How to Wear Sneakers with Dresses.
This is the second part of my post about Vans slip-on shoes; in the first part, I reviewed the quality and fit of Vans shoes.
Why might it be challenging to wear slip-on sneakers with dresses? Well, in my opinion, dresses symbolize femininity, and sneakers represent sport. These concepts are almost from two different planets; however, it’s possible to combine them in one outfit. The main secret here is that the dress and other parts of your outfit should balance the athletic side of sneakers.
Leather or suede slip-on sneakers are easier to wear with casual or classy clothes. I have gold leather slip-ons, and, unfortunately, Vans doesn’t have this color. But they have amazing rose gold slip-ons. Vans also has light pink leather slip-ons and suede slip-ons which would work with casual outfits. These colors are neutral, and they are close to one’s skin tone and make one’s legs longer. They also would look great with any other colors.
I wear my slip-ons with a short dress, jacket, and structured purse. Since the dress is short, my knees are bare. And visually it makes a big gap between the dress and shoes. With the structured blazer and structured purse the shoes don’t look so athletic; instead, they give my outfit a good rigid frame. Their thick soles do this job. So the whole outfit doesn’t look sporty; it looks more classy.
I made a list of dresses with which sneakers would look good. Basically, a dress should be short to show bare legs. And it also should be simple or structured.
Sneakers would look great with a t-shirt dress because the dress is athletic. Generally, it’s just a long t-shirt. You can have a backpack or shopper with this outfit.
A shirt dress is simple; its collar and closure make it look structured. Here is the same thing that I talked about when I showed my outfit.
Remember what dresses Twiggy wore? A shift dress is a perfect combination to have with slip-on shoes. The shift dress is minimalistic with clean lines, and it’s short. Have a structured bag with this outfit—something similar to what I have.
A dungaree dress and sneakers look good together because of the t-shirt that you put underneath the dress. The t-shirt is athletic gear, as are the sneakers.
This combination may seem a bit weird, but in my opinion it’s amazing. The main thing here is to have metallic slip-on shoes such as gold, rose-gold, or silver. These colors represent celebration and leisure. You would not wear them in an office with a strict dress code. A maxi dress is supposed to have print, be made of chiffon, and open one’s shoulders. A dress like this also symbolizes celebration, and that’s what unites the dress and sneakers. Open shoulders are important because they incorporate an athletic detail into your outfit. A soft leather clutch would look good with this combination.
What do you guys think about these outfits? How do you wear sneakers and dresses?
